Viva La Vitas

Thrift Shop blouse, Old Navy Skirt, Fossil bag, Overstock.com Vitas

Okay so first I apologize for not posting lately.  I just started a new semester and it has taken me a bit to get the gist of things.  I have been taking outfit photos during this time however so i'll have several posts within the next week.   I can officially say that I am now aboard the fashion train when it comes to the new trend of Jeffrey Campbell Vitas.  The ones i'm wearing here are knock offs however, but even so they are just wonderful.  I love the eccentric color of these and every time I wear them I receive compliments.  The fit is wonderful as well and they really aren't hard to walk in or hurt your feet at all.  I love the fact that with these you can pair them with any old outfit, not limited to a plain t-shirt and jeans, and liven it up in an instant.  So if you're thinking about getting some look alike Vitas or even the real ones, I say go for it!  You won't be disappointed.

Ello Moto

Material Girl dress, Thrift shop tee, Kohls tights, Thrift shop jacket
I've been searching and searching for a leather jacket that I absolutely loved.  Unfortunately all the ones I found were out of my price range like this one from Nasty Gal.  Luckily for me I found this one at the Buffalo Exchange when i went to spend a gift card I got for my birthday.  I was practically screaming whenever I found it because I adored it and adored the fact that it was only 18 dollars!  It is times like these that make me realize how much thrifting can really save you time and money!

Subtle Polka Dots

Vintage Dooney and Bourke bag, Second hand turtle neck, Revised vintage skirt, Forever 21 necklace, Target boots

I've been really into polka dots lately.  Probably because you can really pair them with any design and make it work in some way.  What really drew me to this skirt however was the waist band belt that is built into, it just gives it that extra touch that clearly makes all the difference when paired with this turtle neck my grandmother handed down to me.  I tend to be really late on trends however so I just go on my own schedule when it comes to participating in these things so if you guys know of some good trends I should try just let me know!

Traveling Gear

Went traveling be back later

Doesn't this outfit just scream "Take me off to Paris", I've been searching and searching for simple tutorials on how to make a tulle skirt like the one above.  I am always up for saving money and I think that's why i love thrifting so much, not just because of all of the unique vintage items you can find, but  also because you can purchase an item for way less than you normally would pay.  It just leaves me feeling satisfied with myself, so if i can make this skirt myself i'm all for it.  Any ideas on how?

Berry Cherry

Vintage knitted sweater, Belk pants, Target boots, Vintage Dooney and Bourke bag, Claries ring

Over the weekend I find it hard to pair outfits for some reason, maybe it's lack of motivation or maybe i'm just lazy and like to lie around all weekend.  I knew when I found this sweater earlier this year however that this would be just the thing I needed that made a statement and yet doesn't feel like i'm actually trying.  I'm still trying to get the hang of this site as well so sorry if the photos aren't that great quality, but i promise i will be including inspiration boards very soon.  I also will be posting outfits from now on on Mondays and Wednesdays and maybe Fridays as well.

Thrifty Finds

Vintage sweater, Forever 21 dress, Shoe Department shoes

So I am kind of obsessed with thrift stores and was very pleased whenever I found this sweater at the Buffalo Exchange near me, their known to contain one of a kind pieces such as this.  The sweater is a bit thick though so i paired it with a light dress for the simple fact that I love mixing weather specific pieces together and was ready to tackle the day in the most comfortable outfit I've sported in a long time.

Filmography

I feel as though if i wasn't set on the path to a future writing career that my calling would truly be film and directing.
I just love immersing myself in a wonderful movie and being able to relate to the characters of that certain film and the story they are really bringing together.  I just find the whole film making process fascinating.  The weird thing is though that in our day and age the truly great and wonderful films that are out there today don't get as much recognition   This would be known as the oh so famous (or should i say not so famous) independent film industry.
This industry holds certain directors such as Stanley Kubrick which I feel I have mentioned before.  Let me just tell you now that I love him with an obsessive passion.  I find all of his movies genuinely interested and appreciate the paths he took with each one to make it their one.
My all time favorite movie by him is Lolita.  Although, this movie has been remade and although the remake is great as well I still with every fiber of my being feel that Stanley Kubrick's version provides more of an in depth concept to bring the book and the characters to life.  People want sex though and so this movie often gets snubbed for the original version of the movie steers away from this due to the time period.  What is funny however is that only a few years following the release of Lolita Stanley Kubrick produced the great work of A Clockwork Orange which was an american version of the same titled British novel.  This movie was the total opposite of Lolita, it contained tons of graphic nudity and sex but yet was applauded for it's extreme broadness and quirkiness.  He went on later in his film career to produce movies such as The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut which is a movie that for some reason reminds me of  Lost in Translation which was directed by Sofia Coppola starring the actress Scarlet Johanson who also starred in Ghost World, which is also another one of those films that deserves great praise.
Most independent films do not get the recognition that they very well deserve and this is also proven in Sofia's films.  A few of her films including Marie Antoinette  and The Virgin Suicides are very well constructed and if i do say so myself better than most of the films that come out via movie theater.  I've included a few trailers of the movies I have talked about in this post just to familiarize yourselves with them if you don't already know.  Enjoy!

A Metric Concert And More...

So I have come to realize that I can not always keep the promise of blogging everyday like I first said I would.  I will blog very often though let me correct myself and say, sometimes it is just hard to blog everyday and since I am very forgetful I just sometimes forget to.  Anyways I know I haven't blogged since Friday morning or was it Thursday? I really can't remember (see I told you I was forgetful), but i was really busy this weekend so I have a good excuse.  I had went to my aunt's house like I said in y last post that I was going to do and it was pretty fun.  My cousin and I went to her high school['s football game which was crazy due to the fact that they have tailgate parties in the parking lot (I mean really, it's high school) and we just chilled out at the house playing the best card game ever Skipbo! It's better than poker in my opinion. We went to Carolina Place (which is an awesome mall by the way) and of course I had to buy something and even though the lady at one of the stores I went to charged me twice for only one pair of earrings I had my cousin sort it all out (Since I hate talking to cashiers and what not) and ended up getting a store credit card.  I would have rather just had my money back since it was their mistake, but you know companies these days.  Anyways, Sunday we went thrifting at my favorite thrift store here which I found some amazing Daisy Tights! I know right isn't that awesome! and a cool studded jacket for only 8 bucks!  Monday I went to school as usual, but whenever I got home Aaron picked me up because we were both going to a Metric concert that night in Charlotte.  Can I just express my ultimate love for that band over anything else.  They are just fantastic and their lyrics and nusic actually means something and has a purpose compared to a lot of the music on the radio today.  I just love underground bands more than anything else and Metric is just a band I think I will love forever!  But anyways, they were just great live and Emily Haines just seems so cool to me I can't get over it.  There was a band that went on before them as well called Half Moon Run.  They are a new band since they just released their first studio album, but they were also just wonderful.  I think that maybe I have a sweet spot for bands that include keyboard in their range of instruments.  They could all sing and play drums, guitar, they even included harmonica.  At the end of the concert they were handing out free posters too and even autographed them it was just so cool and down to earth.  Since I know that some of you reading this might not have a clue what I am talking about I decided to include some of their music down below.  I did take some live videos of the show but since I am way too lazy to upload it now I'll just include some videos of the songs they played, I might include the live videos in a later post who knows? But anyways (I just noticed I've been saying that a lot in this post) enjoy!
This is one of their more popular songs of the band Half Moon Run.  They played this song live and can I just say fantastic!

I was hoping going into this concert that they would play this song.  I didn't think it was possible since it was from 3 albums ago, but they did and I was dancing throughout the whole thing I'm not embarrassed to say.

Inspired Today

So today is Sunday and I am dreading having to return back to the dark hallways of my poor, down on their luck school.  However, with this fact still in my brain that the weekend is over I am still am in an incredibly good mood for some reason.  There was nothing in particular that made me this way, I came home from staying at my friend's house today at like 1 (Hints my reason for not posting yesterday), made 2 cakes for a project I have tomorrow in my History of the Holocaust class on Jewish culture, and then just sat around.  Within the few hours that have passed from then till now however i have just been jamming out to new music, scrolling pinterest and tweeting my little heart off.  Normally I hate social networking, but i cant deny the fact that sometimes connecting with people over things you love is just essential and what is a better way than to do that over the inter web.  Yes i said inter web, I like to feel different sometimes, no big deal.  But anyways back to the point of this post, I have found a lot of great artists that I feel deserve to be listened to by everyone (I'm warning you that I am slow on discovering new things so these made be old bands and old songs, but they're new to me so i like to think they were just formed yesterday)  Now I do have a problem where i tend to think that my taste in music is just naturally everyone else's taste in music as well.  I'm not selfish (I don't think) I just have a hard time noticing others around me so if this is not your taste in music that's totally fine too I'm sorry I couldn't meet you at your music eye level.  Anyways to conclude my post today I'll just leave a few artists here (I tried to find different genres, although this was hard for me as I tried to find uplifting music at the same time :)
This is a new rapper I found out about a couple of weeks ago.  He is still very underground, but he reminds me of the Based God, which is very much loved by my boyfriend, so i figured he deserved a chance (:
This is a band I just started listening to mainly because I'm going to a concert with my boyfriend Aaron next Monday and they are the opening act for the main act Metric (which I might as well mention is my favorite band of all time and I will probably be talking about them in the near future).

Now this band is sort of debatable.  Although I have loved most of their songs I have took the time to listen to, mainly because they remind me of The Cure which is one of my favorite bands as well, a lot of their videos on youtube consist of them playing live.  While I do have a spot in my heart for live music performance videos when you just want to listen to the song that could make things kind of difficult.

Now for my last video I figured I would include another one of my favorite artists.  Now I've known about Regina Spektor forever so she isn't really new to me, but I feel this is just one of those songs that everyone needs to hear (no matter you religious preference) it is just one of those songs that touches your soul.  Well that is it for today I hope you guys aren't too offended by my musical tastes.. Enjoy!
